Your Fall Car Care Checklist

Fall is the ideal time to remind drivers that as the weather cools, it is important to do a seasonal vehicle checkup. Doing this can help maintain safety and maximize your car’s efficiency. Santa Ana Auto Care understands that many drivers may feel overwhelmed about where to start when it comes to caring for their car, so we’ve laid out a complete fall car care check list to help you out:

  • Engine Hoses

Inspect your car’s cooling system hoses for any problems. Be on the lookout for cracks, loose clamps, or leaks. Be sure to also squeeze the hose to check none are brittle or have an overly-spongy feeling.

  • Brakes

An increased amount of rainfall often comes along with the fall season. You want to make sure your brakes aren’t going to give out on the slick roads. Have your brakes inspected by a professional auto care center, such as Santa Ana Auto Care.

  • Antifreeze and Other Fluids

Your car’s radiator needs the right balance of water and antifreeze. If the ratio is off, the fluids inside the radiator could freeze and lead to a problem. Be sure to check other fluids in your car as well, including power steering fluid, windshield cleaning fluid, and transmission fluid.

  • Exhaust System

Check your car’s exhaust system for carbon monoxide leaks. Many newer car models have cabin air filters, which bring air from the outside into your car. If your exhaust system is leaking carbon monoxide, this can be dangerous. If you notice any problems, have your car checked immediately.

  • Heater and Defrost

Test your heater and defrost to make sure they are working properly. You don’t want to be uncomfortably cold and unable to see through the frost every time you drive.

  • Lights

Check to make sure all interior and exterior lights are working. With an increased amount of cloudy days during the fall, you’ll want to make sure that other drivers can see your lights on the road.
